Ielts writing task 2 TOPIC: People in the community can buy cheaper products nowadays. Do advantages outweigh disadvantages?

** OUTLINE for IELTS WRITING TASK 2 – 19.03.2016

1. 
Advantages:

–      People with low income now can purchase products which were very expensive in the past like laptops and smart phones at reasonable prices => enjoy a decent living.

–      Consumers spend a lesser amount of monthly expenditure on basic necessities (clothes, food, etc.) => saving money for other aspects of life such as education, entertainment, and health.

–      Products become more affordable => overall consumption is boosted => other fields of economy may develop significantly.

       2. Disadvantages:

–      In order to keep costs low, manufacturers may use cheap and unsafe materials => harmful to consumers’ general health.

–      Products of lower prices usually entail short shelf life and low quality => people sometimes have to spend more money to repair or buy new products => no cost-effectiveness.

–      Mass production often goes hand in hand with worker exploitation and international outsourcing system (i.e. when a company uses workers from outside the company to do a job).

      3. Do advantages outweigh disadvantages? (depends on personal opinion)
